MAKERS: Private Reserve

MAKERS: Private Reserve

The MAKERS, Private Reserve playing cards are a luxury deck made by Dan & Dave (the Buck Twins) in a limited run of 1984 decks. At the time of it's printing in 2020, it was said that this deck may be the most intricate deck from the Buck Twins.

This deck's tuck case has been embossed and stamped with layers of gold and silver foiling both inside and out. An intricate and long green seal adorns the top of the box reading:

Preciously reserved with deathless reverance.

The quote on the seal reads "reverance" -- it is unknown whether this is misspelled on purpose or if it's an accidental typo, but it also appears in a different quote on the face of the flap:

Made with reverance for the highest order

The cards themselves feature an ornate foil-stamped back design against a maroon backdrop. Each court card is a custom illustrated tribute and celebration to the foundational "makers" that civilization has been built on. The Ace of Spades and the two identical jokers are also illustrated "makers", leading to the Fourteen Featured we can see printed on the tuck's flap. The Ace of Spades also hosts a "First of Fourteen" line of text, though in deck-order it comes after the jokers so I think the statement is for the maker that it represents: The Wanderer.

The deck consists of 56 cards:

  • 52 playing cards
  • Two identical jokers
  • Two ad cards

This deck is created by Dan & Dave and designed by Chad Michael Studio. It's beautifully printed by USPCC on D&D thin crush stock with an air-cushion finish. The deck features custom court cards, custom pips on all cards, and two identical jokers. The tuck case has an embossed, foil-stamped design, is secured with a green label seal, and features printing on the inside!
