Republic No. 3 Lost Angelus Edition

Republic No. 3 Lost Angelus Edition

Released in 2020, 7 years after the debut of the Republic series, Ellusionist finally brought out a new deck and it happened to be in collaboration with Jeremy Griffith, aka @lost_angelus!

The launch party was at the Blackpool Magic Convention and, as far as I'm aware, quickly sold out afterwards. I, personally, have been looking for one since I first learned of them but have only seen the really high eBay prices. I received my copy of the deck as my April 2022 Mystery Deck purchase from Ellusionist! Sweet =]

The deck itself is printed on luxury pressed E7 stock from Cartamundi. It's soft. It's thin. It's sturdy! It's broken it right out of the box and handles beautifully. I've been fidgeting with it all day and it doesn't show much wear or tear yet, so you'd definitely get some great practice in with this deck.

On the faces we find a minimal pip design. Or miniature design that is. They're tiny. And the layout of the central pips is different from normal too. It has a soft and classy feel to it. Its own characteristic, if you will.

The Ace of Spades, sitting on top of the borderless deck.

The back design is borderless, and a fantastic shade of green. This is the same green carried over from the tuck -- the back of which matches the deck's back. The front is simple, nothing too crazy. To offset that, or to make it even more classy, the entire thing is wrapped with a cigar sleeve and is just next level.

My only question about the deck is, why is the back of the cigar sleeve, next to Jeremy's signature, adorned with a 10 of Spades but the deck itself features a duplicate 9 of Spades?

The deck consists of 56 cards:

  • 52 playing cards
  • Two non-identical jokers
  • One double-backer
  • One duplicate 9 of Spades

This deck is created by Ellusionist. It's beautifully printed by Cartamundi on luxury pressed E7 stock. The deck features custom court cards, custom pips on all cards, a double-backer, a duplicate 9 of Spades, and two non-identical jokers. The tuck case has a matte design, is seal free, and features printing on the inside! While the tuck itself is simple, it's wrapped quite nicely in a raised-text cigar sleeve, signed by Jeremy Griffith.
