Club Fix 1 - 3
Introducing Club Fix 1 - 3 by J. Jack: a wonderful addition to your card sandwich collection.
This comprehensive book is tailored for magicians of all skill levels, from beginners to seasoned professionals. With a singular focus on card sandwiches, this collection is sure to captivate and amaze your audience.
Inspired by Andrew Normansell's renowned Club Sandwich routine, Club Fix 1 - 3 is a compilation of three books packed with valuable insights and techniques.
The book kicks off with a brand new introduction section, featuring a step-by-step tutorial on nine distinct sleights and handlings that form the foundation of the routines. Each of the tricks from Club Fix (the first book) are based on Club Sandwich. From Club Fix 2, the first routine is an adaptation of John Bannon's Paint it Blank, the second routine is actually a 4 Ace sandwich routine, and the final trick in it is also based on Club Sandwich. And finally, the tricks from Club Fix 3 each present alternate endings to Club Sandwich. What's good to know is that all of the tricks (except for Now I See It) require 2 selections -- so they're all good for multiple spectators (and, I don't know many sandwich routines that have 2 selections).
Spanning a concise 63 pages, this softcover gem was designed to provide updated, non-gaffed, and impromptu versions of the original Club Sandwich routine. After reading through it (twice!), I actually think that it has an even better purpose: to remind magicians that even if a trick is good, there can be other methods of performing it that can make it better. On top of that, J. Jack is providing a lot of different ideas on handlings and endings throughout this book -- each of which that can apply to tricks outside of Club Fix 1 - 3 too.
While the book includes black and white photographs throughout, I do think that they could be clearer and, well, more abundant. Most are difficult to see and there just aren't enough to accompany the tricks being explained, so they're not really aiding in the comprehension of the tricks presented.
I also want to point out that the tricks themselves are undeniably fantastic, but some readers may find the descriptions overly verbose and occasionally repetitive. It may require a careful and patient reading, going back and forth to fully grasp the subtleties. Incorporating videos of the performances would undoubtedly enhance the learning experience, providing visual clarity and further understanding. I'm not saying there needs to be video tutorials (though that would be nice too), just simple performance clips would suffice.
What sets Club Fix 1 - 3 apart is its emphasis on accessible sleight of hand, allowing magicians of varying skill levels to delve into the world of card sandwich routines with confidence. If you're a fan of card sandwiches, or are just looking to expand your repertoire and further-master the art of card magic, this book will be a worthy addition to your library.
