False Anchors V3 - Standard Edition
False Anchors V3 playing cards, the third deck in the False Anchors family by Ryan Schlutz, kicks the nautical theme up a notch. Coming in two varieties, the Standard as seen here, and the Special Edition, the V3 deck has several secrets hidden throughout.
Originally a Kickstarter campaign and fulfilled by Art of Play, the deck is now available through other retailers.
The tuck case is covered with anchors, front and back, and hints at the back design of the cards themselves. The backs come in a sea-worthy teal, also covered in anchors.
The cards are printed on premium crushed stock by USPCC and are fully marked. They very much do not pass the riffle test, and doing a wide-fan (not a thumb fan) could lead to visual discrepancies, but it's an easy to spot marking system that's easy to learn.
The deck comes in Mnemonica stack with the Ace of Spades cut to the face. There are two identical Jokers, except not. One of them is a gaff that has an Ace of Hearts on the other side. You'll also get a mis-pipped Ace of Hearts / Two of Clubs, and one smudged Eight of Clubs. I didn't think I'd ever use that gaff, but I not only used it in a quick routine with my family, but it's also necessary for the hidden treasure hunt!
The hidden treasure hunt? Yes! Hidden throughout the deck (hint: the courts!), there's a clue to the start of a treasure hunt. You can read more about it here, though there aren't many spoilers =]
The deck consists of 56 cards:
- 52 playing cards
- One standard Joker
- One gaff Joker (with an Ace of Hearts on the back)
- One Smudged 8C
- One Mis-pipped AH / 2C
