Wayfarers Playing Card
Wayfarers playing cards, by Joker and the Thief, is a deck of playing cards that embodies the spirit of travel and adventure!
A deviation from Joker and the Thief's original trilogy line, the Wayfarers deck still manages to capture the high level of craftsmanship that we've come to know the J&T brand for. The tuck is intrinsically designed, the card backs and faces, beautifully painted. All working together to hold up to the theme of traveling to distant horizons while still seeing the world itself.
The tuck uses two different types of foils, both on the inside and out! The foils are heavy-stamped which brings out a beautiful embossing that encases all sides of the tuck. The front art has eagles and compass roses, whereas the back is more detailed with elements of travel. Through the artwork, J&T still managed to fit in the theme of life and death as well, which is an interesting motif to bring into the travel vibe.
The back design of the cards is actually the design from the front of the tuck case. Normally, not only with J&T decks but with any deck, it's the design from the back of the tuck. In this case, the cards have the eagle and compass roses, and in the middle is the J&T logo -- making the back design, as usual, one-way.
The faces are all completely custom. The courts, borderless and colorful, tell a story representing nature's elements. Each suit claims a specific area, the Spades are for the sky, the Hearts are the Earth and mortality, the Clubs are for fire and the woodlands, and the Diamonds are the custodians of the oceans and patrons of all those who are seafarers. Ah, a link back to the Seafarers deck -- nice!
The deck consists of 56 cards:
- 52 playing cards
- Two non-identical jokers; one a joker, one a thief.
- Two ad cards
This deck was originally available via a Kickstarter campaign that was fully-funded in 2020.
